Accessing Online Tutoring Through Barstow College
INTRODUCTION:
This page will tell you how to obtain online tutoring through Barstow College. You arrived at this location by clicking on Online Tutoring on the main page of your class website. Through this site you may request free tutoring for both traditional and/or online courses. The online tutorial program is reserved for any student enrolled in one or more courses at Barstow College. The tutoring will take place through the tutorial discussion area or via email. Students may also use the tutoring center on campus located in the Computer Commons area of the Learning Resource Center.
Usernames and passwords for the online tutoring program will be the same as the username and password assigned to students in the online class program. Username and password are the same. First four letters of last name last four numbers of social security. EXAMPLE ONLY BELOW. USE YOUR OWN INFORMATION TO FIGURE OUT YOUR USERNAME AND PASSWORD. EACH USERNAME AND PASSWORD IS UNIQUE TO EACH STUDENT!

In order for a Barstow College student to use tutorial services, the student must enroll in Education 150, Tutorial Support. This is a non-credit course, and there is no fee. There is no obligation to attend once you enroll nor is a grade given for ED 150. It simply allows a student to take advantage of the tutoring program and/or computer commons in the LRC.

USING THE TUTORIAL DISCUSSION GROUP:
After enrolling in ED 150 you can follow the steps below to begin your tutoring sessions.
Welcome to on-line tutoring. It is our goal to meet the academic needs of every student attending Barstow College. In order to access the on-line tutorial area follow the following steps.
1. Go to
http://www.bcconline.com.
2. Click “Discussion Groups” on the left side of the screen.
3. Scroll down and click “Tutorial Discussion Group Area”
4. Type the [user name] and [password] which is the first four letters of your
last name followed by the last four digits of your social security number (with
no space between).
5. Follow the directions posted at the top of the Discussion Board. If you need help learning how to use
the discussion board click on this link.
BECOMING A TUTOR:
To become a tutor, a student must have completed the course to be tutor with a “B” or higher, be referred by the instructor, maintain an overall 2.5 GPA, and complete a required eight-module training program. To become an on-line tutor, an additional five-part on-line tutorial workshop must be completed. Tutors are paid for the time they are tutoring.
