Refreshing or Reloading a Page.

In order to see the most current copy of a page on the Internet students should hit the "reload" or "refresh" buttons on their browsers.  This tutorial will help you to learn how to hit "reload" or "refresh" in your browser.

Internet Explorer Users -- Hitting the Refresh button and clearing the cache

Open Internet Explorer.

Go to the page containing outdated information

Hold down the CTRL key and tap the F5 key, or click the refresh button.  It is located in the uppermost gray area of Internet Explorer.  The refresh button looks like this: refresh button.  After the page refreshes you should see accurate dates.  If you do not see accurate dates after hitting refresh you may need to clear your cache.  Instructions to clear your cache follow:

Make sure that you have the most recent version of a Web page by clearing out your Web cache.

Here's How:

  1. Click the "Tools" menu bar
  2. Choose "Internet Options"
  3. On the "General" tab, click "Clear History"
  4. When it asks "Delete all items in your History folder?", click "OK"
  5. click "OK"

Netscape Communicator Users -- Hitting the Reload button and clearing the cache

Open Netscape Communicator.

Go to the page containing outdated information

Click the reload button.  It is located in the uppermost gray area of Netscape Communicator.  The reload button looks like this: reload button in Netscape 4.7 and below or this reload button in Netscape 7.  After the page reloads you should see accurate dates. If you do not see accurate dates after hitting reload you may need to clear your cache.  Instructions to clear your cache follow:

When you upload a page and it doesn't display correctly, you should clear your cache. This will force the browser to load the page from the server.

Here's How:

  1. Open Netscape
  2. Click the "Edit" menu bar
  3. Choose "Preferences"
  4. Click on the plus sign (+) by "Advanced" and choose "Cache"
  5. Click "Clear Memory Cache" and then click "OK"
  6. Click "Clear Disk Cache" and then click "OK"
  7. Click "OK"
     


Tips:

  1. When you upload a page and it doesn't show in your browser, clear the cache
  2. Netscape has two different caches, and it is important to clear both. The memory cache is less permanent than the disk cache.
